CID Graduate Student Lunch Seminar

"Improving Sovereign Debt Management: The Commonwealth Secretariat’s Perspective"

Speaker: José Maurel, Adviser & Head of Section, Special Advisory Services Division, Commonwealth Secretariat, United Kingdom

Friday, 6 April 2007
11:45 AM - 1:00 PM, Lunch served
Perkins Room, 4th Floor, Rubenstein Building, KSG

Abstract:

The Commonwealth Secretariat’s capacity building programme in debt management was launched in 1985 as a direct response to the debt crisis of the early 80’s. Over the years the programme has grown and evolved to become one of the flagship projects of the Secretariat. Offered as an integrated package of assistance, it comprises a number of components including:

  • The development, provision and support of the Commonwealth Secretariat Debt Recording and Management System (CS-DRMS) now used by over 55 countries both within and outside the Commonwealth
  • Advice on debt data compilation and adherence to international standards
  • Training in debt management including the use of CS-DRMS
  • Advisory services in various aspects of debt management.

More information is available at www.thecommonwealth.org and www.csdrms.org.

It is hoped that the presentation will serve as a backdrop for a broad based discussion on aspects of sovereign debt management of interest to the audience.
