Welcome

What is B R E A D?

B R E A D is a non-profit organization, founded in 2002, dedicated to encourage research and scholarship in development economics.  Our main activities are conferences, a working paper and policy paper series, and a summer school.

Conferences

BREAD organizes conferences on development economics with a focus on micro-economic issues.

The fourteenth BREAD conference will be held at the University of Chicago, September 26-27, 2008.

The thirteenth BREAD conference was held at Brown University, May 1-2, 2008. [Conference program and papers]

The CIRPÉE-BREAD Conference on Development Economics was held at L'Université du Québec à Montréal on February 22-23, 2008. The conference was jointly hosted by the Centre Interuniversitaire sur le Risque, les Politiques Économiques et l'Emploi and the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development. [Conference program and papers]

Working Papers

BREAD publishes a working paper series authored by fellows of BREAD. They are academic papers in development economics. [Search the BREAD working paper series]

Summer School

In 2008, BREAD, the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the University of Verona are hosting a summer school in Italy. The summer school is intended for advanced graduate students in economics and a small number of recent Ph.D.s. [More information and application information (PDF)]

In 2005, BREAD, in conjunction with the Banff International Research Station, offered a summer school in development economics for Ph.D. students, post-docs, and graduates. The summer school was held in Canada and introduced students to the main concepts in analytical development economics - methodological, theoretical, and empirical - as well as to a variety of statistical and modeling tools.
